A lot has changed in the last few years with regard to laptop memory. When we were buying our laptops, 4GB of RAM was more than enough.
But now that we’re looking to upgrade, is 8GB or even 16GB better? The answer to this question is a little complicated. On the one hand, 8GB is the sweet spot for most people. Anything more and you start to see performance degradation.

On the other hand, 16GB might be overkill for most people. Unless you’re doing heavy graphics or video editing tasks, 8GB should be more than enough. So where does that leave us? It leaves us with the decision of whether or not to upgrade our laptops in 2022.
If you’re on a budget, go with 8GB. If you have the money and want the best performance possible, go with 16GB. But either way, make sure you have the latest memory technology your laptop can support!

So, what should I do?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question since your needs and budget will vary a great deal depending on what you’re using your laptop for. However, here are some general guidelines to follow when pondering whether or not GB RAM is enough for a laptop:
If you’re primarily using your laptop for web surfing, emailing, and basic office tasks like word processing and spreadsheet work, then GB RAM should be more than enough.
However, if you plan on doing gaming or heavy multimedia use, then you’ll likely need at least GB RAM. Games can require upwards of 4GB of memory to run smoothly, while HD video editing and rendering can easily consume 8GB or more of memory.
So, if you’re not sure whether GB RAM is enough for your needs yet, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and invest in something that will give you the best performance possible.
Upgrade the RAM by yourself
If you’re looking to upgrade your laptop’s RAM, there are a few things to keep in mind. Depending on the model of your laptop, it might only support up to 8GB of RAM, so make sure to check the specs before you buy. Additionally, most laptops these days come with a dual-core processor and 1-2GB of RAM, so adding more memory won’t really make a huge difference. If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade your RAM, including additional memory in a new build or upgrading an existing laptop is always an option.

Buy a second-hand laptop with more RAM
If you’re looking for a laptop with more RAM, a second-hand laptop may be the best option for you. Laptops with GB of RAM are available at a fraction of the cost of new laptops, and they still offer plenty of power.
Some factors to consider when buying a second-hand laptop with more RAM include:
How much RAM is required?
Generally, laptops with 4GB or more RAM are required for most tasks. However, if you plan on using your laptop for intensive work or gaming, then you’ll want to invest in at least 6GB of RAM. 8GB or more is also recommended for high-performance tasks.
Is the computer compatible?
Before purchasing a laptop, make sure that it’s compatible with the operating system (OS) that you’re using. Many OSs come with default settings that limit how much memory a computer can have.
Checking the specs on your computer will help determine its compatibility. If you’re not sure whether or not your computer will support more than 4GB of RAM, don’t buy the laptop until you’ve confirmed that it does!
There are also some older laptops that only have 2GB or 3GB of RAM and may not be able to handle the most demanding applications or games.
Before making your purchase, search online for reviews from other users who have already bought and used the same model of laptop as yours. This should help narrow down
